Corporate
Music Melbourne
Music in the city of Melbourne
Melbourne is the multicultural centre of Australia, bringing with it
the greatest shopping, restaurant, and living environments this nation
has to offer. As a result, Melbourne's music scene is also one of diversity,
culture, and depth.
From the vibrant banks of Southgate and Federation Square, to the distant
hills of the Dandenong Ranges, the scenic Yarra Valley, and the Mornington
Peninsula, the Melbourne music scene has become the most eclectic mix,
of just about anywhere in the world.
Corporate music by Location
In this section, we have decided to look at corporate
music by location, instead of by style, as a possible interesting
way to consider corporate music at your next function.
Consider the location of your next corporate function, and then consider
the style of music that would
be most appropriate. For example, if you were having your next corporate
function at the Palladium, Crown Casino you may decide to employ a large
"live" rock or latin band with a sound production crew to
match.
On the other hand, if you were to have your next corporate function
in the wine rich Yarra Valley, you may decide that a soloist, small
Jazz band or classical
ensemble would set the mood.
A corporate function held on a Yarra River
cruise, in a City Cafe, or on the Mornington Peninsula offers a delicacy
of corporate music choices, inviting anything from a classy duo or trio,
to a small "live" band.
With a more rural corporate setting, you may decide to choose a Country
Style corporate band or
a flashy Rock'n'Roll band.
Choosing corporate music by style
The range of music styles that are available at your
next corporate function is vast, and will depend on the mood of your
guests, the purpose of the function, and of course the location. Here
are some definite corporate
music considerations:
Classical
The term "classical" music is now used to represent music
that was composed over several hundred years. However, in reality it
should be thought of as 4 separate musical periods. Baroque (1600's),
Classical (1700's), Romantic (1800's), and Contemporary (1900's onwards.
There is obviously far more involved here, but this is useful as a
guide for choosing the type of "classical" corporate
music you may want to employ.
Jazz
Great for the start of any corporate
function. Jazz music does not have to be particularly well known,
since it is more associated with a mood. However, your corporate jazz
options are, ragtime (early 1900's), Trad (traditional 1920's), Swing
(1930's), Big Band (1940's), and contemporary (up to the present day).
Once again, this is only a guide to help you understand briefly what
sort of corporate jazz music is available.
Rock'n'Roll
If you want your guests to dance all night, then this is by far the
best music at any type of corporate function.
Boasting dance styles such as The Jitterbug and the Twist, this style
of music will have particular appeal to your more mature corporate guests.
Rock'n'Roll was a music that was immortalised in the 1950's and early
1960's by artists such as Chuck Berry and Little Richard, and is synonymous
walking bass lines, and simple 12 bar musical rotations and lyrics.
Popular Corporate Music
Choosing popular
corporate music, also commonly known as "Pop" can broken
down into several categories, with particular attention to:
70's Disco
From Sister Sledge and Donna Summers, to The Village People and the
Bee Gees, your corporate function is destined to come alive, with music
from this era. Disco music was borne out of the 1970's, and became synonymous
with discotheques (Discos). New styles of dancing were created as an
expression of the times, whilst the music of this era was generally
more complex than it's 1960's counterpart.
If you want to see some interesting dance moves at your next corporate
function, then you can't go past 70's disco for you next corporate
function.
80's Retro
The 80's saw the end of disco music, and the beginning of the computer
age, bringing with it the amazing portable synthesizer, which quickly
found it's way into bands word-wide. Your next corporate function will
have that funky retro (retrospective) touch if you choose music from
this era.
If any of your guests can Breakdance, or have heard of artists such
as Duran Duran, U2, Prince or Madonna, then your next corporate function
will be a success with music from this era.
90's Dance
As the digital age entrenched itself in the world of music, the 90's
became synonymous with better quality recordings and an eclectic mix
of artists ranging from M People and C&C Music Factory, to MC Hammer
and Mariah Carey.
Whilst the 90's didn't offer the same popular dance styles as the 50's,
60's and 70's, there is almost certainly something from this era that
will appeal to your younger guests, at your next corporate
function.
Hits of Today 2000 and beyond
If you have a very young audience, then this is definitely the music
if appeal at you next corporate function. With the resurgence of R&B
(rhythm& blues), be careful that you don't alienate your more mature
audience.
Corporate Music Conclusion
As you can see above, there are many styles
of music which we have discussed briefly, and some which have not
been mentioned here at all.
Your next corporate function may live and die at the hands of the entertainers
and music styles you choose. Pay careful attention to the ages and tastes
of your potential audience and guests, and do not make the fatal mistake
of choosing just what you like.
Also, one last point to consider, is decide from the outset whether
you want your corporate guests to mingle, listen, or dance all night
at your next function.
