Italian Wedding Entertainment

It seems that one of the most common entertainment question we get from brides is "do we play Italian music?".

For many Italian brides getting married in Australia, particularly in Melbourne, one of the most challenging aspects of booking their wedding reception, will be the need to bridge the ethnic gap between the older Italian generation, and the younger Australian generation.

This can be quite challenging for any young bride, particularly given the range of options available, and the importance of delivering both traditional Italian and popular western music.

A Good Place to Start

Firstly, you need to determine how traditional you require your wedding to be. For example, you may require only a few traditional Italian songs, in which case your choice of popular western style bands will be greater.

Furthermore, you may require a much stronger traditional approach, in which case you will need to book an act that is proficient in playing Italian style wedding music.

Italian DJ or Band

The first thing you will need to consider is whether you are looking for a DJ or band. These two options a quite diverse, and are usually the result of both budget constraints and personal taste, notwithstanding the style and theme of the wedding that you are planning.

The DJ

Whilst this is often a safe option for many brides, since most DJ's will be able to play a wide selection of both popular western and traditional Italian style music, it may not necessarily be the answer you are looking for.

You will need to find out whether the DJ has performed at Italian wedding receptions previously, and whether the DJ understands the various Italian wedding traditions. Hence, the music played by the DJ will be a reflection of how well you have done your homework.

Also, beware that you are not sacrificing the mood and vibe of your wedding reception when choosing a DJ, simply because you have found one solution to your wedding entertainment dilemma.

There are other options, and many of them can lift your wedding reception to heights that DJ's could only dream of.

Dueling Bands

A popular approach is to hire two bands for your wedding reception. One that plays traditional Italian style, and the other that plays a popular western style. This not only provides a more entertaining approach to your wedding reception, but will also help bridge the ethnic music barrier.

You will find that your Italian guests are more likely to dance to popular western style music, if they are able to dance to some of their own Italian traditional music. The same applies to your Australian and English guests.

Whether you are into Dean Martin or the Gypsy Kings, Kylie Minogue or the Village People, be sure to consider the full range of musical options available for your wedding reception.
